Francesco Orsini, Senior Researcher at the Department of Agri-Food Sciences and Technologies of Bologna University, with research expertise in the field of plant physiology and growing systems for urban horticulture (including indoor cultivation with artificial lighting and rooftop farming). Dr. Orsini is currently the Chair of the Landscape and Urban Horticulture Division of the International Society for Horticultural Sciences (ISHS), and member of the Management Council of the Italian Society for Horticultural Sciences. He was involved in European (e.g. Hortis, Urban Green Train, Salus Space, Allotment Gardens in European Cities, GardensToGrow, BUGI, Susturbanfoods) and International projects on Urban Agriculture including in collaboration with international agencies (e.g. FAO-UN) and NGOs, in Latin America (Brazil, Peru), Africa (Mauritanie, Ivory Coast, Cabo Verde) and South East Asia (Myanmar). Dr. Orsini authored more than 100 scientific publications in international journals and books and recently edited the book Rooftop Urban Agriculture (Springer, 2017). In 2019 he will organize the 1st International Workshop on Vertical Farming (VertiFarm2019) at Wageningen University.
